The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Vladimir Sobotka Czech Republic Jersey , launched a new surveillance system under its ongoing Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) project to ease the flow of traffic and operations on roads. To this end, the Centre鈥檚 autonomous agency already started deploying the surveillance system in various toll plazas in the country.

The NHAI鈥檚 parent organisation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), opines that the new surveillance system will eliminate traffic congestion on roads especially on highways, which currently facilitate around 40 percent of trade and commerce in the country. Over the next six months, the National Highways Authority of India is planning to position IP cameras at 10 major Toll gates to improve security at Toll gates. The new surveillance system is built with sophisticated imaging technology and smart IP cameras to collect real-time data on the flow of traffic.


Once the surveillance equipment gathers the information, it will send it to a Command & Control station at Regional Office (RO) David Pastrnak Czech Republic Jersey , the supervisors will analyse the data collected by the command centre and deploy relevant measures to clear gridlocks and other traffic-related incidents.


The IP camera in the surveillance system will send time-stamped photographs to the RO command centres for every 30 minutes, and it works round the clock. The low-latency IP camera of the surveillance system live streams traffic-related information, which will further used to decongest the flux of traffic at Toll gates.


If the traffic is not fixed within 30 minutes, then the surveillance system will send alerts to the RO and NHAI command centres to perform necessary actions to bring the situation back to the normal. The NHAI is deploying the project under the leadership of its Chief General Manager, Akhilesh Srivastava. To improve traffic management, the NHAI鈥檚 surveillance system is integrated with high-definition cameras, sensors, and databases. Moreover, the new surveillance system is at the heart of the Incident Management System (IMS) in processing data on road accidents and traffic congestion. The IMS-based surveillance system, will improve road safety and mitigate traffic congestion.
